Alex Rawnsley is an Australian expat, currently residing in British Columbia, Canada. Following a natural-born love of sport, and a passion and talent for broadcasting, Alex has travelled all over Canada and the United States, broadcasting a variety of sports on both radio and online. Whether between benches or high in the rafters, the excitable, unique and knowledgeable presentation Alex brings to a broadcast allows him to relate to the audience and provide an enjoyable experience.
After Alex's family relocated from Queensland, Australia in 2002, Alex found passion in broadcasting through a high-school film class. Initially excelling in behind-the-scenes production, particularly Directing, Alex's focus began to shift more towards commentary and presentation. Following a long history of public speaking and performance, Alex found a comfortable home in a variety of broadcast booth's in British Columbia.
Starting out as a race commentator for select dragon boat festivals during the Vancouver summer season, Alex found his perfect fit upon moving north to Prince George. His first major call was for the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings, as a play-by-play commentator, then as a colour analyst later in that season for the BCHL's Penticton Vees. Alex also joined the Hockey Canada broadcast team for the 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup, hosted in Prince George, serving in a roving reporter role for the tournament.
Following positive reviews from those broadcasts, Alex was able to secure regular jobs with a number of teams. The Prince George Fury debuted in 2010 and Alex was appointed play-by-play announcer for the club, becoming the first and only announcer for a team in the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League, and just the second regular broadcaster in all of North America for the Professional Arena Soccer League.
In 2010, Alex teamed up with the Cariboo Cougars, a major midget hockey team in BC, to broadcast their semi-final games. Again returning to an online platform, the coverage of the games drew a large audience from all around British Columbia. Following the games, Alex and the Cougars reached an agreement for Alex to spearhead the coverage for the 2010/2011 Season, covering all home games from Kin 1 Arena in Prince George, with the option of heading out on the road with the team when scheduling allowed.
Whether the pitch, the rink or the water, there are few situations where Alex feels he cannot excel. An uncanny ability to recall statistics, combined with a relaxed and personable presentation forms the basis for a successful broadcast. Alex is continuing to hone his skills in the commentary box, and looks forward to taking his career to the highest possible peaks in the sports broadcasting world.
