Alex has been a sports announcer since 2007, beginning with temporary roles with teams in the BCHL, then moving to soccer in the winter of 2009 with the CMISL's Prince George Fury. Alex travelled across Canada and into the Northwestern United States.

Alex finally settled on hockey in the fall of 2010, signing on with the BCMML's Cariboo Cougars to provide live play-by-play action of all the 09/10 Playoffs, and then all 21 home and playoff games for the 2010/2011 season.

Building on that basis, Alex joined on with the broadcast team of the 2011 World Baseball Challenge, and was lead play-by-play announcer for 8 games of the tournament, including the final, something that broadened his comfort zone in the broadcast booth.
